PAISLEY OR PERSIAN PICKLE?

Summer of love or cashmere shawl—which comes to your mind when you hear the word paisley? Since I was only 8 years old during the summer of love and I own four shawls with paisley patterns, I tend to go back and forth on the question.

A recent donation of fabric contained a treasure trove of paisley-patterned fabric. The main teardrop shape is sometimes referred to as a Persian pickle by quilters. Most of this fabric I believe dates to that late 1960s early ’70s time period. I’ve been pondering ways to incorporate these into a quilt.

I have a vague idea of an animal native to India or Iran and not much else. This is going to be one of those ideas that sits on the back burner simmering away until just the right animal makes itself known.

Now where did I put the love beads?
